"The Hardest Fight I ever Saw": The Battle of Upperville at Kirkby Farm

Join VPHA on the 162nd anniversary of the Battle of Upperville for an exploration of Kirkby Farm, site of the heaviest fighting in the lead up to the Gettysburg Campaign in June, 1863. On ground protected in perpetuity by conservation easement, VPHA historians will lead a walk through Kirkby Farm (then known as the Thomas Farm) and explore this chaotic moment in the American Civil War. Hear stories of those who lived through it from the Union and Confederate armies, and the civilians who witnessed this dramatic moment that would change their lives and community forever.

The program will be followed by a beer & wine reception.
