World War I ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. It claimed the lives of 40 million people worldwide and caused hardship across the world. 31 Loudoun County citizens perished in the war.

Remember the 100th anniversary of the conclusion of this significant war with this special commemorative program at the historic Loudoun County Courthouse and Great War Memorial in downtown Leesburg.

11:00 a.m.—Moment of Silence followed by a panel of historians discussing Loudoun County and World War One. Topics include:

- Governor Westmoreland Davis

- George C. Marshall in World War One

- President Woodrow Wilson’s Connection to Northern Virginia

- The Homefront in Loudoun County

12:30 p.m.—Laying of poppies at Loudoun County Great War Memorial

Historians will bring local and international artifacts related to Loudoun’s role in World War I on the battlefield and the homefront.
